WCBS "A Connecticut teacher has been honored by first lady Laura Bush for helping preserve the nation's history.
"Elementary school teacher Maureen Festi of Stafford was named the Preserve America National History teacher of the year. Bush presented Festi with the award during a ceremony at the Museum of the City of New York
Festi was accompanied by two of her fifth-grade students. She helped them research a Colonial ironworks in Stafford, locating primary source documents dating to the Revolutionary War.
"Festi, who has been teaching for 30 years, says she never dreamed she would win the award. She was also this year's history teacher of the year in Connecticut.
"The national award is presented jointly by Preserve America and the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History.
"Bush is the honorary chairwoman of Preserve America."
****congrats to maureen festi, but did mrs. bush tell the kiddies that it is her husband who is sending children off to fight in afghanistan and iraq? did she tell them that our military personnel are poorly trained and lack the proper equipment? did she tell the kiddies that her own children aren't going anywhere except to groovy parties? mrs. bush appears to be a nice lady. she just married a bum.
