“Despite the end of the Iraq war and the scheduled drawdown in Afghanistan, this Memorial Day arrives against a backdrop of deepening – and some say more troublesome – antiwar sentiment among military veterans. One of the most vivid and replayed images of protesters at the NATO summit last weekend in Chicago was a group of some 40 vets lined up to toss their war medals over the chain link fence to protest.”
This rubbish comes from the pages of the Christian Science Monitor written by Gloria Goodale, a Jimmy Olsen wannabee.
“Some say” is the journalistic trick for giving your own position without any real basis of facts or figures. It should have read, “Gloria say.”
As for the “40 vets” she writes about, where is her documentation that they are really vets and even if they are, that is 40 vets out of millions that are floating around in this nation? They get pensions, go to college, get family medical care, take space available trips around the world and on and on.
A close examination of the medals that were tossed would probably show that they were bought in an army navy store just off Times Square.
More to the point, however, is the newspaper itself and its staff made up of people like Gloria. If there is fault to be found with the U.S. Government (except when the Black guy is President) it will find it.
Finally, “Christian” is a hell of a name for a newspaper that is in favor of abortions, in favor of gay marriages and generally anti-Semitic.
Gloria is a bum. You can bet her latest hair coloring that she has never ever visited a veterans hospital to find out what they think.
Come to think of it, her article pissed on every mother, father, sister, brother, wife, whose loved one was injured or died so that she could be free to write crap.
P.S. Gloria and her copy editor should know that there is no such word as “drawdown.”
It is actually “draw down” or “draw-down.”
