INTERNATIONAL HERALD TRIBUNE "In this case, a split was not a draw.
"Despite narrowly winning Indiana, while losing North Carolina, Hillary Rodham Clinton did not fundamentally improve her chances of securing the Democratic presidential nomination. If anything, Clinton's hopes for overtaking Barack Obama dwindled further.
"For Obama, the outcome came after a brutal period in which he was on the defensive over the inflammatory comments of his former pastor. That he was able to hold his own under those circumstances should allow him to make a case that he has proved his resilience in the face of questions about race, patriotism and political mettle - the very kinds of issues that the Clinton campaign has suggested would leave him vulnerable in the general election.
"Beating Obama in Indiana, a state he had once been confident of winning, was an achievement for Clinton. But it was hardly the kind of strong victory she posted in Pennsylvania and Ohio. And when paired with his comfortable victory in North Carolina - which Obama pointedly described in his victory speech as "a big state, a swing state" - it hardly seemed enough for Clinton to convince uncommitted superdelegates to rally around her candidacy."
****how come adam nagourney, the byline on this "news" report did not mention that ninety per cent of the blacks are voting for obama? how could that be? sounds a little racist to us. jews vote for jews, catholics vote for catholics and newspaper hacks vote for newspaper hacks when they run for office. but, not in a ninety per cent mode. if obama gets to be president and he does to this nation what charlie rangel has done to harlem, we are all doomed. don't ever vote for your own kind, they will always screw you the most, folks.

AM NEW YORK "Lou Coletti, the president of the Building Trade Employers Association, has something of a new idea for improving the woeful record of the city’s Department of Building’s: Getting rid of the agency all together.
"The proposal came during today’s city council hearings on increasing building safety.
“We are facing a crisis which requires bold and creative action,” Colleti said. “What is needed is radical reform.”
"He added, “Government needs to reform in a way that will allow this industry to continue to be the economic engine that fuels this city’s economy and does so in way that doesn’t compromise safety. They are not mutually exclusive goals.”
****the buildings department has a history of being one of the most corrupt and inefficient city agencies in new york. the commissioner, some broad who knew nothing about a hammer and nails, was just fired by the mayor for being the incompetent boob that she was. this is a city that is filled with poorly made buildings which were approved by the buildings department....including the world trade center which had so many exceptions given to it, that it is a wonder that it stood up before the attack of 911.
****lou must be wearing a pair of overalls that are too tight which are affecting his thinking if he really thinks that getting rid of the buildings department is going to happen. his industry actually needs this buildings department, which has its allegiance to the builders and the owners and not to the city, to continue to be the corrupt agency that it is. then of course, we have the housing and preservation something or other agency which is even more corrupt than the buildings department.

NEW YORK TIMES "Comes a very late entrant today into City Room’s How Would You Redesign the Taxi Logo? online symposium of last fall.
"In a new advertising campaign, Capital One Bank depicts a cab door with Smart Design’s “TAXI,” but without the “NYC” designed by Wolff Olins. Presumably, the absence of a New York City marker makes the bank’s message seem less parochial.
"But it also cures the graphic mash-up that resulted from combining the work of two design companies on a single car door."
****we don't have a problem with wolff olins hopefully socking it to capitol one bank for its art work. the thing that makes us wonder is that the capitol bank is one of the worst offenders of charging obscene interest rates and service fees on their credit cards. they direct their promotions and marketing to the lower income folks and that means cab drivers. we have a suggestion for wolff olins. how about a graphic design that would incorporate the names and faces of at least fifteen new york city cab drivers we can provide, who are literally collapsing under their debt to capitol one. that is fifteen that we can provide almost instantly. if wolff olins needs more, we have an endless supply. the two fat cats that run wolff olins are brian boylan and karl heiselman. maybe the next time they are in a nyc taxi, they might give a little nicer tip than usual as an apology for the punks at capitol one.

WNYC "Adaora Elizabeth Udoji (born 1967) is the co-host of The Takeaway with John Hockenberry, a new public radio morning drive program created by Public Radio International (PRI) and WNYC New York Public Radio.
"Adaora Udoji, has chased down major stories as a foreign correspondent, but few assignments have proved as elusive as her search for the perfect New York apartment. After spending months searching, and trudging through nearly 100 showings, she finally bought a 2,200-square-foot three-bedroom in a brand-new high-rise on the Upper West Side for a bit under $2 million."
****the next time wnyc goes begging for money from its listeners, just think of adaora's apartment and compare it to your apartment, before you write out the check. as a matter of fact, prior to the next time you write out the check, ask wnyc to give you a really detailed financial statement as to where all of its money actually goes. there must be at least one honest broadcast journalist at wnyc who will look into this ultimate broadcasting scam....a radio station that claims it is non-profit, yet pulls in huge sums of money, not only from the listeners, but also from advertisers who are just as sleazy as the ones on commercial radio.

NEWSDAY "To speed up Bus Rapid Transit trips even more, the MTA is going to encourage riders to exit from the back of the bus only.
"Back-door-only exiting is a pilot program that will be tried out on the longer, accordion-style buses on the BRT route along Fordham Road in the Bronx.
"We'll start there and see where it goes," MTA CEO Elliot Sander said at a meeting of the New York Metropolitan Transportation Council earlier last month. "We agree that
people should leave through the back of the bus." Drivers will ask riders to exit through the back door at stops -- but passengers still can leave from the front if they choose to. People exiting from the front of the bus is one of the most common complaints heard at the Straphangers Campaign, said Gene Russianoff, the group's chief attorney.
"The whole point of BRT is to find ways to shave minutes from the run," he said. "The idea of getting people on quickly is thwarted if you have to wait for people to get out."
****we now have proof that both elliot sandler and gene russianoff were bred in test tubes. no parents. they don't have any knowledge of what older folks must go through on this city's bus system. making people exit at the rear who are either elderly or handicapped is just plain mean. come to think of it, most older and handicapped people don't move out of their seats until the bus comes to a full stop....because of the erratic and dangerous method of driving commonly provided to the passengers.
****as we read about this latest nonsense from the mta, we could only imagine elliot sander in that famous role of richard widmark where he pushes the old lady in a wheel chair down a flight of steps. as for gene russianoff, his business is sticking his nose into this city's trnsportation situations when he should be handling foreclosures and evictions like his fellow attorneys.
****by the way, elliot “lee” sander was recommended to the position of executive director and chief executive officer of the metropolitan transportation authority by former governor eliot spitzer (the putz who spent $80,000 on whores and who has probably given his wife a good case of aids). eliot did to the hookers what elliott does to this city's taxpayers.
DAILY NEWS "In a sizzling new memoir, Barbara Walters reveals she had a passionate affair with a married Senator - and dishes on Star Jones's "lies" and Rosie O'Donnell's diva-like antics.
"Walters writes in her book, "Auditions" that the affair with former Massachusetts Senator Edward Brooke in the 1970s almost ended both their careers.
"At the time, the twice-divorced Walters was a rising television news star and co-host of the "Today" show.
"When her lover told the newswoman she was the oldest woman he had ever been with, she wanted to say - but never did - "Oh Yeah? Well you are the blackest man I have ever
been with," Walters says in the book.
"Brooke, the first black member of the U.S. Senate since Reconstruction, was so in love with Walters he told his wife he wanted a divorce."
****we were always under the impression that babs made her career in broadcasting based on only the fact that her father lou walters was a big deal nightclub owner in new york city. now, we find out that she not only got to the top via influence, but via the bed. the most disturbing aspect of this latest revelation is not so much that she screwed a married man, but that the media in reporting this story this week never used the word "slut." as for revealing this information at this point, babs must be upset that she has now become a wrinkled old broad and wants to get some attention anyway she can. she should make a play for obama.
